Vuurtoren Westhoofd Leuchtturm

Groenedijk, Ouddorp, Netherlands

The current 52.3 meter high square tower was built after the Second World War on the site of the old lighthouse according to a design by government architect Gijsbert Friedhoff . It is a concrete skeleton with brick cladding. Iron bars were used that came from the old lighthouse. The light was turned on for the first time in 1950. The tower was restored and repainted in 2018-2019. The shaft of the national monument has been purple-red ever since. The municipal council approved this striking colour because it most closely resembles the original ‘lighthouse red’ of the old pre-war Westhoofd lighthouse.
